Port St. Lucie certainly isn't short on incredible 55+ communities, but Catalina Palms at Sundance caught my attention because it isn't simply trying to recreate what's already been done. It came to the table with a few surprises of its own.

Let's start with Club Catalina. At an enormous 56,000 square feet, it's being billed as the largest community clubhouse in Port St. Lucie, and the amenity list reads more like a resort itinerary than an HOA brochure. Think resort-style pools and cabanas, the Royal Palm Restaurant & Bar, Sunset Pool Bar, a dedicated movie theater, Culinary Lab demonstration kitchen, art studio, fitness and yoga spaces, card rooms, tennis, pickleball and even the Solace Spa & Salon. Yes, a spa and salon right inside your 55+ community. Catalina, you officially have my attention.

But here's what REALLY makes Catalina Palms interesting to me: the homes themselves give buyers another kind of choice. Akel Homes is known for a more personalized, semi-custom approach, with a Design Studio and opportunities to select finishes, fixtures and certain structural options. For someone buying new construction who doesn't want their home to feel like the exact same version of the house next door, that's a pretty compelling difference.

I have a lot of respect for what communities like Valencia Cay at Riverland brought to Port St. Lucie's active-adult market, but I love that Catalina Palms isn't simply following the blueprint. It's bringing its own personality to the conversation, with a massive clubhouse, spa days close to home, dinner and cocktails without leaving the community, movie nights, resort-style amenities and more opportunity to put your own stamp on a brand-new home.

My favorite part? Catalina Palms feels like the new kid in town who didn't show up quietly. It walked in wearing sunglasses, ordered a poolside cocktail and booked itself a spa appointment. And I'm kind of here for it.
